So the doe I was telling you about before stood and stared at Stefanie and I in our little pop-up blind for what seemed like forever but was really like a minute. We could tell she didn't like what she was seeing and eventualy turned and walked back in to the woods to not be seen again.
We decided to be finished with our hunt at about 7:15 pm and went ahead and walked back to the truck and then on back to camp. Now our deer camp is NICE. In the world of deer camps it is a 10 . But we do have one little problem............. MICE!!!!! So needless to say my lovely wife was not going to sleep in the trailer. So when we got back to our really nice deer camp my first chore was to setup our $35 tent just outside of the $15000 travel trailer :) lol And in case you were wondering a queen sized air matress will fit in a 3 man tent if you air it up inside the tent! After a bout with the tent and air matress I finally got it all done and made Stef and I a nice pork loin on the grill with a ceasar salad for dinner. It was great by the way!
Once we got done eating we sat and talked for a little bit around the coleman lantern then decided to hit the hay. Now I consider myself to be somewhat of a tough guy. But my wife was asleep in that tent in all of a matter of about 15 minutes. While I spent the next long agonizing two hours wondering what every little noisewas that I was hearing was. My mind raced to everything from rabid coyotes to escaped prisoners from the prison a few miles down the road to who knows what kind of un-known viscious beast lives in the woods of Jacksboro Texas!!!!! I finaly did get to sleep for about and slept really good for about an hour! Then spent the rest of the night waking up every hour in-voluntarily to make sure nothing was going to get me or my unsuspecting bride. I could tell she was really scared too . When she got up to go out and use the bathroom in the middle of the night she even used a FLASHLIGHT!!!!!!!!!
Well after I finaly looked at the clock on my phone for 5th or 6th time it was time to get up. We got up made coffee, got dressed and off we went for day two of our first deer hunt together. Now just to back up a little bit the night before I was smart and put some red ribbons in some trees to be able to find our stand a little easier in the morning. Well guess what although that was a great idea. It didn't work real well. So Stefanie ,beside going on her first deer hunt, also got to get lost in the woods, in the dark , with her big tough hunter man husband for the first time as well!! Man that was really imbarasing. I made her pinky swear that it would never leave us about me getting us lost in the woods , in the dark , in a place I have been many ,many times :( But I guess I am letting cat out of the bag . I am not big and tough but instead I am a scared little boy who is afraid of the dark with no sense of direction!!!!!!
After about 30 minutes of tromping through the woods in the dark we finaly found our blind and settled in. Just before daylight I saw another little deer coming down the same trail as the doe did the night before. Except this time he was coming right into the area I would have a perfect shot on it. And he did indeed stand right in front of me broad side about 20 yards away . PERFECT!!!!! But there was one small problem. He was a little 2 year old fork horn buck. One that I would not shoot and I 100% believe that he knew it. After having almost jumped in to the feeder pin he finaly decided he didn't like the looks of Stef and I . He blew real hard and took off.And that was the end of our deer hunt!!!!!! Thanks for reading!
