Gettin Closer

Well Stef and I went on her very first deer hunting trip last week. It was Thursday, October the ninth 2008 (also my b-day). We got to the deer lease in Jacksboro about 3:30 pm . As soon as we arrived we changed our clothes. I got my trusty bow out and took some practice shots just to be sure I would be right on if we got the opportunity to harvest a deer, turkey, or maybe even one of those noisy old pigs!
By about 4 pm Stefanie and I were in the woods and setting up our camo pop-up blind. Just to let everyone know, these pop-up blinds are too cool. So anyways it took us about 20 minutes to get all settled in and the hunt was on. Now again I need to say that this is my pretty little wife's first hunting trip. I must also say that she did great. No whining , no complaining NOTHING!!! She did great! It started out slow which can be discouraging, but Stef was a champ and took it all in like a pro. Then about 6 pm it happened! A good-sized mature doe decided to come in to our little area. She walked in from our left high on the hill we were sitting at the bottom of and grazed there for several minutes . Then she walked back behind some brush directly to our left . By this time our hearts were really pounding. It took Stef a minute to finally see the doe , but when she did I think she was more excited than me. If you have never been hunting or just outdoors and around any wild animal in it's enviroment, you are really missing out. It is a truly unique feeling of excitement and anxiousness that cannot be duplicated by anything else....................................to be continued
